The Fiscal Future of Swampscott

Municipalities across the country are dealing with fiscal cliffs and Swampscott is no exception. To preserve our community’s way of life and protect our taxpayers, we must take a future focused, disciplined approach to our town’s finances. Identifying savings, stretching every dollar, and exploring ways to partner services with other municipalities in ways that are mutually beneficial.  These efficiencies are key to ensuring positive outcomes for services we rely on and stabilizing our community’s tax burden.

Our Coastline

The ocean defines who we are as a town and as a people. Our fate is intertwined to that of the sea and likewise our treatment of it reflects our spirit. Climate change’s impacts are real and our infrastructure is not ready for a generational storm surge that could visit us at any time. We need to update our pier and seawalls to protect our fishermen, residents, and businesses.

I am in favor of increasing collaboration with the city of Lynn and strengthening pressure on our federal and state partners for contributions toward fixing the pollution at King’s Beach once and for all.

Economic Development

Our small businesses breathe life into Swampscott. They create jobs, attract tourism, and weave the fabric of our town with their contributions. Future development should always take into account our current small business owners’ needs. The generational opportunity of the Hawthorne sight will forever transform our future downtown into a cohesive, active place with room for business and open space that all of our residents & visitors can appreciate and enjoy.

By honoring the needs of our local business while expanding opportunities, we will create a thriving commercial base, securing funding for our future needs.
