Meet Wayne
One of us for all of us

IMG_9310.JPG

Wayne is a 19-year resident of Swampscott and a homeowner who lives on Blaney Street in Swampscott’s oldest neighborhood. A deeply rooted Massachusetts native, Wayne brings a combination of love for our town, compassion for our neighbors, and experience in deep policy work that uniquely qualifies him for a role as a member of the Swampscott Select Board.

Wayne studied History and Gender Studies at SUNY Oneonta, which launched a lifelong passion for policy and advocacy. Wayne launched several groups on campus focusing on making positive change in the school, the community, and beyond. During this time, Wayne conducted research interviewing LGBTQ+ youth leaders and documenting their histories to examine patterns within groups and to share the perspectives of these marginalized communities. Wayne takes this approach to all of those he meets. He listens and truly hears what those around him are saying and concerned with.

His advocacy and policy work was recognized nationally as he was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of  the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest civil rights organization working on LGBTQ+ issues.

Wayne has been married to his husband David for the past 30 years. While creating their home together, Wayne’s career transitioned naturally into sales. As a licensed real estate agent, Wayne’s enthusiasm, collaboration, and most importantly, his ability to listen and help buyers and sellers through a time of equal parts excitement and anxiety led both he and his clients to terrific outcomes. It also provides Wayne an important insight into the landscape of property values in the greater Boston area.

Wayne also has extensive experience in retail management.  Spanning nearly three decades as a servant leader, Wayne has managed departments employing 30+ people, actively partnering with 40+ brand stakeholders & vendors and generating millions of dollars in revenue. He has hired hundreds of employees, using his keen knack for identifying people’s strengths to place people in roles in which they can excel. In these leadership roles, Wayne has managed budgets, identified and recruited top talent, and consistently delivered on sales goals. Wayne will bring these skills with him to the Select Board.

Wayne is personally and deeply invested into Swampscott’s future while being aware of its unique past. As a Town Meeting Member and an active community member, Wayne is prepared to bring a disciplined, thoughtful perspective to the role of being a steward of Swampscott’s finances while building toward a future full of possibility.
